www.lucima.com

I’ve gone through several iterations of my website. No, not this one. My photography website. It started on the weekend of April 17th when I was in Las Vegas and had an itch to create a website to showcase my images. Throughout that weekend I racked my brain for good names for websites and finally decided on “lucima” - a fabricated word with the latin root “luci” which means light. Some say it sounds like a drug. Others say it sounds like a company. I’m fine with either or both. :)

In the same weekend my buddy Tony and I tried multipleĀ free flash-based websites. We tried dfgallery (both versions 1 and 2) neither of which worked for me. Then I tried Flash Gallery (0.2 beta) which did work but was such a hassle to resize and upload and configure the xml that I stopped updating the site with new pics. Truthfully it felt like someone created a nice little app then stopped updating and maintaining it once they were done and perhaps got a few donations.

Now, I think I’ve found my new website format. Hosted by JustHost.com but created with the www.showitfast.com platform, I have both email by JustHost and a “flash-for-dummies” website by ShowItSites. The benefit of ShowIt is that I can design the site without knowing any flash. Check out my new template below.

I spent a couple hours with it last week and another couple hours today. It’s pretty easy to learn and very self-explanatory. There are a few glitches here and there and some usability issues but for the most part it’s a pretty solid platform. I’m looking forward to revamping it soon but for now it will work for showing off my new pictures.
