The Loophole
Rewatched the Lost Season 5 Finale “The Incident” and googled some of my questions…

Two immortals, neither one capable of killing each other, play a game of influence over man to decide a long-standing argument over mankind’s true nature. One (Jacob) admires man, believes man to be good and wishes to share the island with man. The other (Mr.X) despises man, believes man to be evil and desires to be left alone to the island.
They’ve been at the game for ages, and Mr.X no longer cares. He just wants to be left alone on the island, but Jacob continues to bring man to him. Mr.X figures killing Jacob will free the island of man and leave him alone, as he desires. Mr.X can’t kill Jacob himself, but the loophole that will allow Jacob to be killed is for man to strike him down.
So Mr.X gets himself a dead body to possess and manipulates a man who serves Jacob but has been ignored by him, to kill him.
