708 Miles Per Tank!

708!

It took almost two weeks but I finally broke the 700 mile mark on a single tank of gas! Let’s just say that it was pretty painful. I couldn’t run the A/C, I had to drive 55 or slower on the freeway, I’d draft semi-trucks, and it would take almost take twice as long to get to my destinations.

But I did it! I broke my previous record of 606 miles on a single tank. Truth be told since then I haven’t really tried, but I’ve also not broken the 60 MPG mark since then either.

Actually there is still room for improvement. Here are my notes:

1. I did not pump the tank to it’s max capacity, there’s more room for fuel
2. I did not run the car until it ran out of gas.
3. I lost 2 MPG when I got drunk and Catherine had to drive me home
4. If I install the EBH (engine block heater) I can get 2 MPG in for not having to warmup the engine in the morning.

So there’s still room for improvement. But it’s going to be a while before I make an attempt at 800 miles per tank! I’m going to enjoy the A/C for a while and forget about hypermiling.
