TGIFing Strobist Style

Ever since I found strobist.com I’ve been experimenting with lighting. It hasn’t been until recently that I’ve been a little more intelligent and successful with my results. For example, I’ve been wanting to create a shot like this for a long time but haven’t been able to. Now that I understand lighting better, here are my results:

Hahaha and no the cigar is not lit. I’ve been sick and I wouldn’t smoke indoors anyway… The setup is pretty funny. I don’t have a black background so I put a black robe over a music stand inches from my right hand in this picture. The light is camera upper left about 45 degrees shooting down into a white umbrella about 2 feet from my face.

If anyone is really interested I can take pictures of the actual setup, otherwise I won’t bother.

Oh and I’m really missing my 2nd SB-800. I would have lit my hair and outlined my body a touch better if I had a second strobe…
