Family photos (the beginning)!
I should probably explain the origins of these pictures. This trip up to San Jose, I brought my camera gear. Lately however as a result of the strobist movement I have been doing a lot of off-camera flash photography. Thus I brought 2 flashes, an umbrella, and a flash stand.
The rest is history.
Here is an excerpt from the original series of family photos. You can see the rest of them here. These are actually better than the second set of family photos because I’m using 2 flashes in this setup. One on an umbrella from 45 degrees camera upper-left and a second flash (bare) shooting from behind those standing to create rim light/silhouette on the people standing up.
The photo below is pretty funny in a several ways. Firstly, we each have our own definition of what it means to make a “mean face”. Secondly, several of us simply don’t follow direction well :) hahaha!
